Swanland Heritage Centre
The Institute, Main Street, Swanland, North Ferriby, East Riding of Yorkshire, Hu14 3QR
Swanland Heritage Centre is located in the historic Institute building by the pond in the centre of the village; the ideal place to start a Heritage trail, copies of which can be purchased from the Centre or downloaded from the website.
Swanland has several links to historical events of national and local importance; respective lords of the manor having been involved, for example, in the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215 and the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. The later influence of the Todd and Reckitt families and of other businessmen who made their homes in the village, is still apparent today.
Swanland features a number of historic buildings (several being listed buildings), including Christ Church, Mere House, West End Cottages, The Old Parsonage, Swanland Hall and Toft House. Information on these and many other buildings is available at the Centre.
