Step back in time and tread the ancient paths of Neolithic Britain with a guided walk along the famed Sweet Track on the Somerset Levels.

Preserved in the peat of Shapwick Heath for nearly 6000 years, the timber trackway offers a fascinating insight into prehistoric engineering, woodwork and travel. Led by Reserve Manager Jon Macaulay, this exclusive 3-hour tour will start at the Avalon Marshes Centre and take you onto the Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve.

Accessibility details

The Avalon Marshes Centre is wheelchair-accessible with flat paths, accessible toilets (no RADAR key needed), and four disabled parking spaces. The 1.5-mile guided walk is on flat but uneven surfaces (gravel, woodchip, peat, log tracks) and may not suit wheelchairs or walking aids. There are turn-back points to return to the accessible path. Dogs are not allowed on Shapwick Heath NNR. However, assistance animals are welcome. They should wear an identifying jacket, harness, or brightly coloured collar and lead. For more information contact [email protected].
