Tales from the bone floor room: uncovering the everyday histories of King John's House
King Johns House, 13 Church Street, Romsey, Hampshire, SO51 8BT
With unique access to the bone floor room of King John's House, which is currently closed following a catastrophic fire in 2025, visitors will see first-hand the damage caused to our medieval building, observe the beginnings of restoration work and see clues to the building's past, including the surviving section of rare bone floor, one of only a few in the UK. Outside, interpretation panels in the gardens will explore the lives of the people who lived and worked at King John's House over 800 years of changing uses and shifting fortunes, researched with the aid of findmypast. Visitors will also see collections volunteers painstakingly cleaning historic objects salvaged from the fire, while children can follow a fun fact-filled activity trail around the site.
