A coffee-time illustrated talk about the mining heritage of Kent by a local historian with a family history in mining.

Colin Varrall is a well known and popular local historian whose family has been involved in many trades in Deal, in particular mining.

He will talk about the establishment of the Kent Coalfield and his family’s involvement. His great grandfather travelled from Derbyshire to Kent in 1933 to find work at Betteshanger Colliery and the tradition in that occupation continued with three of his children and through to Colin's father.
