Visit The Armitt for free entry to our exhibitions on this Heritage Open Day. Also pick up an eye-spy trail based on the theme "Architecture" and see if you can spot all the buildings and features on display.

The Armitt is once again opening its doors for Heritage Open Days. This year you can explore our temporary exhibitions for free on Saturday 20 September, including:

Beatrix Potter's summers in the Lake District
A Battle of Ambleside
Alfred Wainwright

We'll also have a special "eye spy" trail around the museum focused on the theme of "Architecture". Collect a trail sheet from reception and see how observant you are at spotting all the architectural features in our exhibitions!

The Armitt is located at the north end of Ambleside and at the tip of the University of Cumbria campus. The building is situated opposite the main car park on Rydal Road.

Accessibility details

There is no onsite parking for visitors except for some accessible parking spaces - one in front of the museum and two in front of the neighbouring building. Please note the museum has a chairlift which moves between the ground floor and first floor for the displays. This can accommodate average-sized wheelchairs, walking aids and small motorised scooters only.
