The Death of Wattle and Daub

Caistor Roman Town, Stoke Road, Caistor St Edmund, Norwich, Norfolk, NR14 8QN

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

With the arrival of the Romans came new building techniques, never seen before by the native population, which must have appeared to them like an alien planet. Our guides will share the story of how to build like a Roman.

Caistor Roman Town located on the outskirts of Norwich is the only Roman Settlement in Norfolk that has not been built over by more modern development.
This is a unique opportunity to visit the site and hear about the changes in the architecture of the area brought about by the Roman Conquest.
Your guide will explain about the environmental and technical challenges this new way of building raised for the local population and how society adapted to these changes.
The guided tour will take approximately 1 hour and the route includes uneven ground and steps, please wear strong footwear.
