One of the last intact gas works left in the world, see how 'Town Gas' was made with displays of some of the gas appliances sold to make life easier in the home. For Heritage Open Days, displays of local history and Fakenhams printing heritage.

The first Fakenham Gas works was built by local man R.P. Spice in 1846, this was his first but he went on to become one of the most well known Gas engineers of the 19th century, the current works dates from the very early 20th Century and still retains all the equipment needed to produce gas from coal and to process the by-products produced.
New for 2026 is a permanent exhibition looking at the printing heritage of Fakenham and the men and women who worked in the industry.
The Museum has a large collection of Gas Lighting, Gas Water Heaters, Gas fires, Gas Refrigerators, Gas washing Machines, Dryers and Irons. With Gas meters for the home and industry.
We will have displays by the Fakenham and District Community Archive looking at the history of the Fakenham area and the men who worked at the gasworks.
