Before there were stadiums and professional clubs, there were streets, parks and playgrounds where games were invented, rules were made up and communities came together.

Join us for this Heritage Open Days celebration of Loughborough’s everyday sporting heritage. Through playful activities, community-created games, exhibitions and conversations, we’ll explore how sport, play and diverse local cultures have shaped the town’s social life across generations.

Discover games inspired by local memories, try your hand at creating new ones, and enjoy a day of creativity, fun and connection. You’ll also see stories, objects and games made by local people, revealing the hidden heritage found in everyday play, shared spaces and collective memories.

Whether you’re eight or eighty, everyone is welcome to play, make, laugh, remember and reconnect. Together we’ll celebrate the games that have shaped our communities—and create new ones for future generations.

The Games We Built is a community heritage event combining an exhibition, hands-on workshops, community games and informal conversations. Throughout the day, visitors can explore displays of local stories and memories, take part in creative activities, play traditional and newly created games, and join discussions about how everyday play, places and shared experiences become part of our heritage. Suitable for all ages, the event offers a welcoming space to meet others, share memories, discover local sporting traditions and celebrate the everyday heritage of Loughborough together.

Want to get involved in the planning of this event? Join our free workshop to help create the event. Help design and make the games, props and displays featured at the Community Games. Create handmade equipment, scoreboards, trophies and brand-new games inspired by local memories and sporting stories. No experience needed! just curiosity and a willingness to get involved. 22 August 2026 @ The Careers & Enterprise Hub, 15 Market Place, Loughborough.
