Learn about the 200 year anniversary. “The House of Worth” was the very first fashion brand and a huge success, dressing European royalty (including Queen Victoria) and rich ladies from across the world in spectacular and very expensive clothes.

Wake House is the birthplace of Charles Frederick Worth, "The Father of Haute Couture".
After moving from rural Lincolnshire, he founded his innovative and very successful business in the centre of Paris for customers with "very deep pockets". There will be free guided (or self-guided) tours of Wake House, also displays of Charles F Worth’s creations and information about his life and career.
October 2025 was the 200th Anniversary of his birth in (what is now) Wake House. The 200 years anniversary was celebrated with spectacular events in Paris, in Bourne town and in Wake House - see some of the anniversary event material.
We thank The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Lottery's players because our celebration of Charles Frederick Worth's 200 year anniversary was made possible by lottery funding.
