Jo Simister will talk about the inspiration she found in traditions, locations, documents and life stories of some Derbyshire characters, loosely termed ‘saints’ for the impact of faith on their life, and the influence of their lives on all of us.

These characters include the well-known – Florence Nightingale, the Strutt family and Joseph Wright – as well as the lesser-known martyrs, murderers and misfits whose tangible remembrances pepper the county – for example, a farmer who mistook his cow for the devil, and the most decorated non-commissioned officer of WW1, who was a pacifist.
Jo will talk about how she selected her images for linocuts and line drawings to accompany the text, both to enable readers to be able to find locations for themselves, and also draw fuller meaning from the stories themselves, as prompted by the principal author Rev’d Dr Simon Taylor.
