The Lancaster Canal Tram Road and Tram Bridge
Pavilion Cafe, Avenham Park, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 8JT
A guided walk and with some photos and narrative about the horse-drawn Tramroad and the bridge that connected what was only meant to be a temporary 5-mile link between two ends of the Lancaster Canal, back in 1803 to its closure in 1862. The circular route takes in the newly built Tram bridge and part of the route that the horse-drawn waggons used along this early 'rail road'.
Walking shoes/boots are recommended, dress for the weather and bring a drink for the walk. Numbers are limited to 20. A small stock of books about the canal and its history will be available to buy.

There is a weekly park run event organised every Saturday. Nearby parking will be very busy up to 10am. parking further away if possible, and walking in to Avenham Park is a good way to avoid this problem.
Walkers should dress for the weather and be capable of walking two miles at an average pace. Paths and tracks are good and well used. Some are shared with other users, so be aware of bicycles.
