Hear from Park historian David Griffiths how Huddersfield's attractive town centre park was created and how it has been reshaped over the years since it opened to the public in September 1884.

Greenhead Park is a Grade II listed Victorian town park which has been restored to its former glory thanks to a multi-million pound Heritage Lottery funded project. The story of the park began well before its opening 142 years ago, and continued to unfold over the years as changes were made to meet new needs and challenges.

An illustrated talk by local historian David Griffiths, author of 'Secured for the Town: The Story of Huddersfield's Greenhead Park', will explain how the park, originally part of the grounds of Greenhead Hall, was transformed from a private preserve to a people's playground. Key figures who helped to shape the park, from its first years to its present day form, will be celebrated and some less obvious features revealed.

After the talk there will be an opportunity to look at a display of historic photographs and maps.
