The Malmesbury Bank Raid

Beginning in the Aroma Restaurant at 35 High Street, the old Lloyds Bank, the history of the town's banks since 1812 will be described accompanied by documents and photographs. After touring the premises including the underground strong rooms we will move across the road to the Mercy in Action charity shop which previously was Barclays Bank. Walking up the High Street we will pass the old Midland Bank, the North Wilts Bank and the Halifax Building Society before proceeding to Lally's Tea Rooms which occupies the premises of the Cheltenham and Gloucester Building Society. Here there will be an opportunity to see the Tarantula Coffee Bar in the basement much frequented by teenagers in the 1960s.

The tour involves going up and down staircases, one of which is narrow, into confined spaces. Wheelchair users will be be able to hear the introductory talk.
Children must be closely supervised by their accompanying adults.
