The Old Fire Station
The Old Fire Station, Gipton Approach, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS9 6NL
Gipton Fire Station was commissioned in 1937 and operated as a working fire station until 2015. In that time, it was one of the busiest fire stations as well as a training centre with firefighters living in the houses that surround the fire station. In 2017, the building reopened as a community hub.
This year, we have some really exciting things to celebrate our historic building. Starting with the unveiling of a new Blue Plaque to celebrate the deep community history.
In the evening, there will be the premiere of Space2's new one-woman show based on the story of Penny Rowntree, the first woman firefighter in West Yorkshire. This is part of a three-year project with Leeds Beckett University to uncover women's stories in the fire service.
