Step into the past with a special Heritage Open Days event exploring the everyday histories of the people behind the Royal Victoria Military Hospital.

Drawing on research from the 1921 Census, this exhibition reveals the often-overlooked stories of the people who kept the hospital running behind the scenes. Discover who worked as the engine driver, the responsibilities taken on by a 14‑year‑old employee, and the individuals who transported patients. Learn how convalescing soldiers were supported in their recovery through practical therapies designed to rebuild strength and independence.

Hospital Handicraft Weekend
On Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September, 10am–4pm, the Chapel will host a vibrant “Hospital Handicraft” weekend, bringing to life the therapeutic activities once central to patient recovery.

What to Expect:

- A new exhibition exploring hospital staff
- Temporary displays featuring objects and photographs from the collection
- Craft exhibitions from local makers
- Live craft demonstrations.

Special Activity – Guided Tour
On Saturday 12th September, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission will host a free guided tour of Netley Cemetery.
