The Society of Equestrian Artists Exhibition
The Museum of the Horse, 1 Market Place, Tuxford, Tuxford, Nottinghamshire, NG22 0LA
The Society of Equestrian Artists is a National Artists association for artists whose specialty is horse painting. Formed by a group of leading artists almost fifty years ago the first president was Terence Cuneo. Its aim was to showcase the best in sporting art by living artists and the exhibitions are all closely vetted to try to keep as high a standard as possible. Various prizes are awarded each year at the exhibition and long term sponsors include the British Sporting Art Trust as well as a more recent sponsor Bedmax. (horse bedding not mattreses!) The most important prize is the President’s medal.
This year’s exhibition at the Museum of the Horse gallery and in their new conference room, will hang a large selection of paintings and also give visitors the chance to view the museum too. There will be drinks and nibbles at the opening so do come along and join us or visit during the week.
The exhibition closes on September 25th.

There is no wheel chair access to the museum but an entrance with only six shallow steps with a platform halfway and rails either side. Please ask if you need to use this. A wheelchair can be provided once inside. Full access to the Art Exhibiiton.
The Society of Equestrian Artists is run by and for our member artists with the charitable mission to educate and advance equestrian art. We believe in the foundation of painting the horse from life as a way of developing our artists’ painting. The Society of Equestrian Artists operates on the good will and hard work of a volunteer committee of dedicated equestrian artists and art enthusiasts. As well as exhibitions the Society runs painting weekends tutored by some of the members who have achieved great success in this field. These include Malcolm Coward, five times winner of the President’s medal and known for his limited edition prints, Jennifer Bell, known for her amazing murals and Colin Albrook, the well-known watercolourist who exhibits regularly in the London Societies. They even have a week's training course held at Dedham, close to and inspired by Munnings, and some of the American members fly over each year to attend this. Alongside the Society of Equestrian Artists Exhibition, The Museum of the Horse are also hosting a talk on Jockey, Charles Wood (17th) and providing guided tours (12th & 16th). Please see separate entries for further details and booking links.
