Explore Liverpool's tidal science heritage. See two rare tide-predicting machines - learn how they helped shape one of the world's great port cities, and how their legacy connects to cutting-edge research at the National Oceanography Centre today.

A chance to visit Tide & Time exhibit at the National Oceanography Centre in Liverpool on the afternoon of Monday the 14th of September.

Tide & Time is home to two extraordinary analogue computers: the Doodson-Légé and Roberts-Légé tide-predicting machines. These pioneering devices were used to calculate tide tables for ports around the world.

Join us for a special Heritage Open Days event and discover more about these fascinating machines and the impact tidal prediction had on Liverpool's growth as a major port city. Discover connections between this work and research taking place at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) today.

This exhibit is not currently open for regular visits, making this a unique opportunity to explore one of Liverpool's hidden scientific treasures.

The event is free to attend, but places are limited, and advance booking is essential. The area is fairly small so we have split the afternoon session into two parts - timeslots to visit in the afternoon begin 2.30pm and 3.30pm. You can arrive any time within the booked hour, and expect to spend less than an hour on site. The event will conclude and exhibit will close at 4.30pm.
