Vermuyden 400 at Crowle Peatland Railway
Crowle Peatland Railway is proud to mark this landmark anniversary with a special exhibition and programme of talks exploring one of the most ambitious and transformative land reclamation schemes in British history.
Exhibition
The exhibition created by North Lincolnshire Museum offers a fascinating window into the events of 1626 and their lasting impact on the landscape, communities, and heritage of the Isle of Axholme and Hatfield Chase. Take your time to explore the story of the drainage and discover how a decision made four centuries ago continues to shape the region we know today.
Talks
Delve deeper into the story with our popular talks examining how Cornelius Vermuyden planned and executed his extraordinary drainage works. Presented by knowledgeable speakers, the talks explore the engineering challenges Vermuyden faced, the workforce he assembled, and the methods he employed to transform one of England's great wetland landscapes.
Talks take place daily at 11:00 and 14:00.
