Heritage Open Day: Jubilee Central

Friday 19th and Saturday 20th September (10am-3pm)

Come and explore Jubilee Central located in the centre of Hull on King Edward Street, with a rich history dating back to 1814 when Waltham Street Chapel was located on the site. The site was further developed in the 1920s to incorporate an entrance on King Edward Street before experiencing substantial damage after bombing in 1941. This led to the demolition in 1949 but in 1960, the building as we know it was opened after being funded by Lord Rank.

At the heart of the building is the main hall, which was originally established as the Central Methodist Hall in 1960. The 600-seater auditorium has been used for many cultural events over the years and is a hidden gem right in the heart of the city. Part of the building also played home to a bank from 1904 until 1994 and over the last year, major development has taken place to create a new frontage and transform the bank area (with vaults) into a new space for the community.

After being bought by Jubilee Church in 2012, the now named, Jubilee Central is known for its passion for serving the local community as well as being a place of vibrant worship.

Come and hear about the amazing history of building and learn about how the building is being used to have a real impact on the local community and see the work that has taken place.
