Wakefield Civic Society Tell Us Your Favourite Things About Wakefield - The Final 50!

We think Wakefield is a great place to live, to work, or to visit but now we want to know what you like best about our city. Help us to celebrate the very best of Wakefield by joining us as we announce the top 50 things that people like about our city.

Back in June, we invited the public to tell us their favourite things about the city (and surrounds) – and we were not disappointed! In all, we received around 600 nominations covering items dating from ancient history to the present day. A big thank you to everyone who took part.

Perhaps not unexpectedly, there was quite a bit of duplication – and some of the nominations were for places outside our area (such as Pontefract and Castleford). We also had a few nominations that weren’t really in the spirit of our project.

Well, after sorting and sifting through the entries, we grouped them together into themes to create a shortlist of 225 items that we could ask the public to vote on.

Voting closed on 9th August and we are now reviewing the results.

Join us at Wakefield Exchange (WX) as part of Heritage Open Days as we reveal your 50 most favourite things about Wakefield.
