Waverley Abbey House

Waverley Abbey House is an elegant Grade II* listed Georgian mansion set in stunning surroundings just a couple of miles outside Farnham town centre. The house is within view of the ancient ruins of Waverley Abbey, the first Cistercian monastery to be established in England. Running through the grounds is the River Wey, adding to the beauty and tranquility of the place. The house was originally built by Sir John Aislabie c.1725 and designed by the architect Colen Campbell. Following a fire in the 19th century the house was rebuilt and has witnessed everything from political leadership to wartime healing, having cared for over 5000 wounded soldiers during WWI. Owned by Waverley Abbey Trust, today it is a thriving centre for higher education programmes in areas such as counselling and chaplaincy, with a Christian prayer community at its heart. It is also a venue available for hire for corporate events, weddings and other celebratory functions. The Cafe @ Waverley Abbey is open daily for barista coffees and other refreshments, snack lunches, homemade cakes and ice creams.
