Westbury Arts Centre - A Quick 2000-Year Tour
Westbury Arts Centre, Foxcovert Road, Shenley Wood, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK5 6AA
Occupied since Roman times, and the site of a Saxon burial, Westbury enters the historical record before the Norman Invasion when a Queen’s lover occupied the manor house here. Given to a Norman Knight after the Conquest it was expanded into a moated manor with a major rebuild in 1670, featuring a famous door most probably salvaged from the Spanish Armada.
Becoming a tenanted farm in the 17th and 18th Centuries, Westbury became a feature of the Hunting landscape of Whaddon Chase. After a brief period as a private residence the New Town bought the property and it has since then been an Arts Centre.
Come and let us take you through this fascinating history that encompasses more than two millennia.
Lots of other events are taking place at Westbury during MK HODs and some of our resident artists will be opening their studios for you to visit too.
