Wimborne Minster Guided Tours

St. Cuthberga founded her double Monastery in 705 and around it the town of Wimborne grew. Sometime around 1043, Edward the Confessor re-founded the place as a College of Cannons. During the Civil War Cromwell’s fighting priest started a riot here and in the nineteenth century Issac Gulliver, the smuggler, became Church warden. The Minster is full of our heritage, and we would like to share some of that heritage with you. For thirteen hundred years the Minster has been very much part of the town. It is a centre for Christian worship, a grade 1 listed building, a museum, and a place for quiet and stillness in our busy world.
There will be guides available while the Minster is open to the public.
• The Building Tour - Saturday 12th and Thursday 17th at 2pm.
A look at the structure of the Minster including the different phases of architecture
• The Characters Tour - Tuesday 15th at 2pm
An introduction to some of the characters associated with The Minster
• The Artefacts Tour - Saturday 19th at 2pm
We look at several interesting items, be they of stone, glass, wood, or metal that relate to the Minster’s long and interesting heritage.
