For Heritage Open Days 2026, The Whitaker is bringing a selection of Contact magazines out of the archive store and into the spotlight. Produced by David Whitehead & Sons, this in-house publication offers a fascinating glimpse into the everyday lives of Lancashire’s textile workers. Through articles, photographs and personal stories, this talk explores life inside and beyond the mill gates, revealing how work, leisure and community shaped local life during a period of social change in the mid-twentieth century.
