Nunhead Cemetery

Nunhead Cemetery, Linden Grove, London, Greater London, SE15 3LP

Chapel & crypt visits provide a rare opportunity to learn more about the Anglican chapel and the crypt beneath. There will also be two general conducted tours of the cemetery each day. Homemade refreshments will be available.

Nunhead Cemetery, a Grade II* listed Victorian burial ground, is one of London's 'Magnificent Seven' cemeteries and is of historic and ecological importance. Set on a hillside, the 52 acres of Nunhead Cemetery provides a green breathing space offering peace and tranquillity at the heart of London's borough of Southwark. Stroll a few metres away from the Main Avenue along any of the curved paths into the woodland away from the bustle and sounds of the city. There, amongst the trees, you will find the story of the nineteenth century written in stone. Imposing tombs contrast with the tumbling headstones and carved angels peer through a covering of ivy. At the top of the site is a wonderful view of the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral. Nunhead may be a cemetery but it is one where nature gives it new life during each passing season.

This event took place in September 2023 and the entry is now archived.
