Your chance to visit the largest public sector owned solar farm in the North West.
See how sunlight is being used to generate electricity and why it is near the waste treatment facilities

During the visit to Salford Road Solar Farm in Bolton, you will be guided by the Recycle For Greater Manchester Education team who will take you up close to the solar panels, explain how they work why and how it is related to the contract for waste disposal in Greater Manchester.
Find out what happens in the adjacent waste facilities and Household Waste Recycling Centre.
This year we are aiming to welcome you in person but should the situation change, we will be able to deliver this as an online virtual session.

There are age restrictions: visitors must be aged over 7 and under 18's must be accompanied. The whole visit takes place outdoors so be prepared for any weather conditions. Sensible, strong shoes ( walking boots, wellingtons, trainers) must be worn. Additional PPE will be supplied and includes; high visibility vest, gloves There are no public welfare / toilet facilities on site. (There is one accessible toilet used by the site operatives which can be used for this event)

COVID-19 Considerations

This event will run in line with local & national government guidelines at the time of the festival. If the situation changes, we will deliver the session as an online virtual event.

Use the same entrance off Salford Road as the local Household Waste Recycling centre. Drive carefully past the entrances and exits of the Recycling centre heading down the road. You will see the entrance to the Solar Farm ahead of you on the left.
