Sketching in Stone - An Artist's Talk by Annie Lord
The Straw Yard, Parade, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, TD15 1DF
Annie found inspiration from the original, hand-scribed account books from the bridge’s construction in the 17th century. She got to know the names of the workers - from the women who sanded the stone surfaces, to the masons and surveyors. She created a set of 45 sandstone paints, each one named after a worker listed in the Berwick Bridge account books of the week beginning 25th September 1624. These were given out to members of the local community who each made an artwork in honour of these original workers. At this talk Annie will share her thought processes behind the project and bring along some of the sandstone paint to try.
This project was run by Destination Tweed’s Connecting Threads Project, part of The Southern Uplands Partnership, supported by National Lottery Heritage Fund.
