Girlguiding Norfolk Archive Resource Centre, 14 Great Hautbois Road, Coltishall, Norwich, Norfolk, NR12 7JN
An opportunity to find out more about what the Girl Guides did during World War II, and particularly as part of the Guide International Service. (the G.I.S.). Members were concerned about the welfare of women and children particularly at the end of the war and therefore were preparing during tough training camps so they could cope with whatever challenges lay ahead as they entered war torn areas. Come and see the kit that the members took with them, and find out some of their stories through photographs and the written word. Try out the activities yourselves to see if you could make the grade. Are you up to the rigors of what might be involved?... and find out how Girlguiding Norfolk commemorated the 75th anniversary of VE day during their virtual sleepover. Yes, it happened! Research has continued this year to find out more about VJ Day and the guiding presence in the far east.
Also enjoy our Lamp Light of Peace, one of the special ones made this year as part of the commemorations for those unable to light beacons, but wanting to pay tribute to those who sacrificed so much during WWII. Enjoy lighting your own miniature light of peace, using one match!
