ARRIVALS: Stories of belonging in Medway

Chatham Library, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4TX

Free creative workshop for all ages to explore the diverse cultural histories of Medway.

Come and take part in a relaxed, hands-on creative workshop that celebrates the many migration journeys, family traditions, and cultural influences that shape life in Medway.

Using colourful transparent paper, participants of all ages are invited to draw or write a personal memory, cultural tradition, or reflection and place it on a large illustrated map of Medway. As the map fills throughout the day, it will become a vibrant, collective artwork—layering together stories from across our communities.

This drop-in workshop is part of the national Heritage Open Days festival and is open to everyone, whether you’ve lived in Medway your whole life or recently made it your home. It’s a chance to reflect, connect, and contribute to a creative celebration of local identity and belonging.

The session is hosted by Talking Art Studio, a creative wellbeing practice based in Chatham and will be facilitated by Roya; a local artist and community counsellor with experience working alongside young people, migrants, and families in Medway.

All materials are provided.
No experience needed – just your story.
Families and children welcome.
