Barnsley Main Colliery building is a grade II listed building, evidence of its importance to local history and the only one left standing in the Barnsley area. It stands majestic and proud, testament to the solid hard-working lives of this community. The building is situated in an oasis of green very close to town, perfect for a short stroll or climb the adjacent greened up muckstack for the best views over Barnsley. There is plenty of information about the previous industry on site and also about research for the future - phytomining. Please note there is no access to the inside of the building because of safety issues, but plenty to be seen at this location of a former hive of industrial activity.
