Bateman's will be open for Heritage Open Days 2026. Explore the home of Rudyard Kipling, author of the Jungle Book and Just So Stories.

The family home of world-famous writer Rudyard Kipling, known for The Jungle Book and Just So Stories. Built in 1634, this Jacobean house is in the Sussex countryside.
Explore the house and view some of the original illustrations for The Jungle Book and Rudyard Kipling's famous writing desk. Once you have looked around the house, have a walk around the grounds and public footpaths. Don't miss the working mill on the mill pond, read about the process of making flour and take home a bag from the shop.
