2b. Celebrate Brathay Trust's newly displayed archive as part of Heritage Open Days and discover the stories behind our historic Ambleside estate.

For 80 years, Brathay has been a place where young people have come to learn, grow and discover their potential. This special open day offers a rare opportunity to explore the estate, learn more about its heritage and view our newly displayed archive, celebrating the people, places and moments that have shaped Brathay's history.

Join one of our guided walking tours, led by members of the Brathay team. Covering approximately 1-2km, the tours explore the estate's history, its connection to the local landscape and its role in the development of outdoor learning.

You are also welcome to browse the archive display at your own pace. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon.

Directions:
Walk from Ambleside: Brathay Hall is approximately 1 mile from Ambleside. From the town centre, walk towards the White Platts miniature golf, then along Rothay Road towards Hawkshead. The majority of the route has footpaths or pavements, but there is a small bit of walking along the roadside, please be cautious. By car: Follow the A593 from Ambleside towards Hawkshead and Coniston. Turn left onto the B5286 towards Hawkshead. Continue over the bridge, the main entrance to Brathay Hall is on the left. Continue up the driveway towards the hall, please park in the designated long-stay parking by the minibuses (free). For those with additional accessibility requirements, please park in front of the hall. By bus: These Stagecoach 505 and 516 buses stop at Clappersgate, from here turn onto the B5286 towards Hawkshead and walk up the main driveway to Brathay Hall.
