Bridewell Studios and Gallery is in an early 20th-century police station. Visitors can see evidence of the building's previous use including original tiles, concrete staircases, prison cells and explore the building via tours on the day.

You will have the opportunity to examine a Grade 2 listed building which retains many original features from when it was a police and fire station. Now home to 34 artists and crafts people, this year is our 50th Anniversary as Artists Studios. There will be exhibitions and workshops over each of the weekends in addition to the tours.

Renovations are still actively taking place so come along and see how things have changed and progressed.

Refreshments will be available.

Location & directions

Bridewell Studios and Gallery, 101 Prescot Street, Liverpool, Merseyside, L7 8UL

Directions:
The front entrance to the studios is opposite the Royal Liverpool University Hospital chimney if you are walking or getting the bus (8, 9, 10, 10A, 10B). The buses listed all stop right outside of Tesco Express and we are next door. If you are travelling by car and wish to park by the building then access is via the back - put Prospect Street L6 1AP into the SatNav to provide instructions for getting round the back of the building to where our parking spaces are. Unfortunately there is no guarantee of a parking space and it is on the basis of first come first served. However there is a new parking site right next to our building with access to it via Prospect Street too so use the same postcode as above for this car park. This car park costs £8 whether you stay 5 minutes or all day.

There is wheelchair access for the ground floor in the main part of the building and one of the blocks but there are no lift facilities for the upper floors and there are stairs at certain points on the tour. However there are places to naturally stop and there will be opportunities to rejoin the tour at various intervals too.

Additional information

As part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations, our longest active Artist and Bridewell member - Frank Linnett, was invited to exhibit in our gallery spaces. His show 'Up to Now' is a retrospective of ideas and interests created in his time at the Bridewell and will be on display over the first HOD weekend and is free to see. For the 2nd HOD weekend, Art Therapists Miriam Sakwa and Vicky Crossley will be exhibiting ' Imagining Awen' in the Grand Parade Hall and will be running workshops over the weekend too. The workshops are donation based and the exhibition is free.
