Children's Windrush Heritage Board Game

263 Chapeltown Road, Chapeltown, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS17 3EX

  • 16 Sep 2026
  • | In person
  • | Pre-booking not required
  • | Workshop

This new board game is a fun and simple way to tell the story of the passengers coming to the UK from the Caribbean on the Empire Windrush in 1948. Flags of the islands which they left are shown. Children and families from all backgrounds are welcome

The game is easy to play by throwing a dice and following the numbered squares with instructions along the way. One person alone can play but also two people can compete to see who reaches Leeds first.
The story begins at the embarkation point, then a journey to London, and some experiences of life in a new country.
The game will take about 15 -20 minutes to complete but, most importantly, we hope that discussion from adults will be prompted by the points made on some of the squares so that the children will leave with a basic understanding of these important events.
We hope that people of all backgrounds will attend -- this is part of the history of everyone who lives in this city!
