Northern School of Contemporary Dance's 40th Anniversary
Northern School of Contemporary Dance, 98 Chapeltown Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS7 4BH
Step inside the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and discover the people, places and stories that have shaped one of the UK's leading contemporary dance institutions.
As part of NSCD's 40th Anniversary celebrations, this special Heritage Open Day offers a unique opportunity to explore our historic Chapeltown site. Including the former 'New Synagogue', now 'Riley Theatre', which has been home to the school since 1987. Visitors will learn about the building's rich heritage, its significance within Leeds' Jewish community, and the school's journey from Harehills Middle School to an internationally recognised centre for dance education.
Explore displays, photographs, archive materials, co-creative artworks and community stories gathered through NSCD's 40th Anniversary Heritage Project 'Kaleidoscope'. Discover memories, from former students, staff, local residents and community groups, revealing how dance, creativity and cultural exchange have connected generations and communities across Leeds.
Whether you have a connection to NSCD, an interest in local history, architecture, dance or community heritage, everyone is welcome!
'Kaleidoscope' is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery Players.
