Downham Market..Gardens of Bank House
Bank House, Bridge Street, Downham Market, Norfolk, PE38 9DW
Bank House was originally the residence of the owner of the adjacent brewery in Priory Road. In 1857 it was acquired by Norwich-based Gurney's Bank and William Pickford was Manager.
In 1896 Gurney's was absorbed by Barclay's Bank and 2 years later part of the Cattle Market was purchased to build the Banking Hall. It became a private residence in 1967 and has recently had new owners who are carrying out extensive renovations so access to the house is not possible. The owners are passionate about restoring the garden so call in and enjoy their vision and you will also see a different aspect to the building than normally seen from the street.
