Everyday Heritage Visit to Happisburgh Lifeboat Station
RNLI, Lifeboat Station, Cart Gap Road, Happisburgh, Norfolk, NR12 0QL
The people of Happisburgh village have been Saving Lives At Sea from at least 1810. Come and hear the stories that look back over the years, detailing how rescues were made back in the days of horse power, human muscle power, top hats and cork life-jackets. Your visit will give you the opportunity to see how ordinary local people used to launch and operate the lifeboat, and how things have developed over the years to reflect changes in life-saving. You can see what happens when you dial 999 and ask for the coastguard, along with the opportunity to speak to current crew and, if circumstances allow, witness a boat launch and life-saving exercise.
