Jesse Hartley: talk
Pontefract Town Hall, 3 Bridge Street, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF8 1PG
This is the story of one of the great Civil Engineers of the late 18th and 19th centuries, whose work was nationally and internationally recognised. He was born in Pontefract, the son of Bernard Hartley a stonemason, architect and bridgemaster. Jesse Hartley from an early age was recognised for his abilities in design and construction. His achievements are considerable, yet he is largely unknown outside Liverpool. He is a forgotten hero of the Victorian Age.
The talk is by David Jones.
