The Architecture and Infrastructure of Pontefract Railway Stations: talk

Pontefract Town Hall, 3 Bridge Street, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF8 1PG

  • 17 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking preferred

By means of photographs, maps and plans, this talk looks at the way in which railway installations in Pontefract have changed over the years.

Railway provision and practices associated with the mechanical steam railway of a bygone era have long since gone and in many cases all traces of this infrastructure have entirely disappeared from view. Housing estates have sprung up on former railway land where once there were sidings, goods yards and other railway buildings. Pontefract still retains its three stations but all else has long gone. This talk, by local railway historian Peter Cookson, is designed to describe in detail the changes that have taken place in Pontefract over the years, using a variety of illustrations from different periods.
