John Brunt VC: Remembering a WW2 Hero

John Brunt VC was a well known local WW2 hero who died in Italy in 1944. He had enlisted in the army at the age of 18 and the family lived in Paddock Wood for 30 years.
The establishment was known as the Kent Arms during Johns lifetime but in 1947 three years after his death it was renamed the John Brunt VC to commemorate such unique bravery and courage. It is the only pub known to be named in this way.
The pub was associated with Whitbreads and other local breweries throughout its history
