Coal mines, lead mines, a railway that never was, a little bit of geology - and panoramic views over Alston Moor at the top, from Nenthead to Cross Fell to Gilderdale. Mount Hooley holds one of many, many little-known lead mines site around Alston Moor.

We’ll be climbing 110m, or 350ft, from the road at 390m/1300ft to the masts at 500m/1650ft; excellent exercise for the heart, lungs and legs. And what is a Slote?
