The tour will cover the geology and geography of the valley; its rich human history including when it was an important location for axe factories; through to George Trevelyan and the birth of the National Trust. We will also give you an insight into farming life in the uplands and the challenges faced by a community trying to balance traditions with modern practices, and how they have adapted to face the pressures and opportunities tourism brings. We will visit some hidden gems within the valley, providing an insight that will allow you to view this stunning valley with fresh eyes.

The walk will be along established paths on the valley bottom. There are slopes and areas of undulating terrain. The exact route of the walk may be guided by the weather forecast.
The meeting point is outside the welcome pod in the corner of the Stickle Ghyll National Trust car park. What to bring and wear - appropriate outdoor shoes and suitable clothing for the weather Children must be accompanied by an adult.
