Royal Berkshire Hospital Medical Museum

Our collection includes many items relating to the history of the Royal Berkshire Hospital, opened in 1839, and of medicine, surgery and nursing in general. As well as providing a consistently high standard of health care the the local community for the last 187 years, the hospital has made a number of important contributions to the development of clinical practice in general. We have a range of publications, written by members of our team, available to buy for modest prices.

The museum is situated off the basement corridor of the North Block, the original part of the hospital, which faces London Road. The museum is situated off a basement corridor below the North Block, which is the original part of the hospital facing London Road. There are directions on the hospital website of how to find the museum. The routes are all via steps or slopes, so wheelchair access is difficult, and the circulation space within the museum is limited, with narrow passages between exhibits. There is a charge for parking anywhere on the hospital site.

Additional information

Although available elsewhere on the hospital site, the toilets and catering facilities are some distance from the museum.
