Royston Parish Church Guided Tours
St John the Baptist Church, Church Lane, Royston, Hertfordshire, SG8 9LG
Come and explore the 850 year old heritage of the Parish Church of St John the Baptist in the town of Royston and take the rare opportunity of seeing displayed in full the "Royston tapestry", an 80-foot (24.5m) embroidered work in the style of the Bayeux tapestry. Created by local volunteers it took 25 years to make, running from July 1993 to October 2018 and tells the history of this Hertfordshire town.
We will have information and tour guides available to explain the history and the stories of some of the people who have made Royston and its church over the last 850 years (30 minute tours running throughout the day), including bell maker Thomas Lester, crusader Edward Palfreyman and Augustinian Brother Timothy.
There will be demonstrations of the organ and bell-ringing, a children's trail and activities.
Delicious teas and cakes and home made produce will also be on sale all day.
