Shoreham Fort Steps you Back in Time
Shoreham Fort, Forthaven, Shoreham Beach, Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, BN435HY
Shoreham Fort will once again buzz with activity as the military vehicles roll into place on this Saturday morning. Living history groups, including the Royal Sussex Living History Group and Steps Back in Time will be there putting on displays in and around the fort. Why not join our World War One Trench Experience, with the Rifles Living History Group in our official War Memorial, dedicated as part of the Heritage Open Days Festival in 2022, or visit the hugely popular Air Raid Shelter Experience which was launched at the festival in 2024.
To add to our World War Two experience, and in keeping with this year's theme of 'Everyday Histories', we are launching a new area. During Covid we all realised that our shop workers were a vital part of society and the same can be said in World War Two. To find out more you will have to come and join us...
Come travel through time with us, from the Victorians through to World War Two as we 'Give History A Future, by Bringing History to Life'. A fantastic, free day out for all the family to be involved in and a perfect way to find out more about what the future holds for Shoreham Fort...
Shoreham Fort, Forthaven, Shoreham Beach, Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, BN435HY
Shoreham Fort is privately owned, and the landowners have fenced the site. There are large steps up to the gun emplacements. As the site is a Scheduled Monument, we must ask that children are supervised at all times. Climbing on areas of the fort, other than the steps, is not permitted. Uncovered foundations create a small area of uneven ground, but these are very obvious.
Food for Fort is our little tea hut (White Beach Hut) which serves hot and cold drinks, snacks, and ice creams. All proceeds from Food for Fort are invested back into the charity for the maintenance and conservation of the site, as well as enhancing our outreach and education programme.
