Silver End Garden Village Walk
Silver End Village Hall, Silver End, Broadway, Witham, Essex, CM8 3RQ
The walk starts from outside the Heritage Centre within the Village Hall (next to Co-op). See Francis Crittall's home; the largest village hall in the UK; the site of the department store; the Modernist telephone exchange; the thatched church; the managers detached flat roofed houses; the unique layout of the village and the many Modern Movement flat roofed houses (153) the village is famous for.
This year the village celebrates its centenary since the foundation stone was laid when the first workers house was built in April 1926.
The local guide, a member of the Silver End Heritage Society Committee, will point out features and places of interest during the walk, which is approximately two hours.
