The Heritage Centre housed within the largest village hall in the UK has a unique collection of artefacts, ephemera, maps etc., depicting the social and working lives of people in Silver End Garden Village.

The Centre shows what life was like for people living and working in what was envisaged to be a self-sufficient village. The village was built from 1926 to house the workers of the local Crittall factory. The village is internationally known for its 153 Modern Movement flat roof houses, (35 of which are grade II listed) along with 350 cottage style houses.

All houses had hot and cold water, inside toilets and front and back gardens, quite luxurious for rural properties in 1926!
This year (1926) is Silver End's centenary year. The first workers house foundation stone was laid in April 1926.
