St. James' Church, Woodside, Horsforth
Low Lane, Horsforth, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS18 5QW
St. James’ Church, Woodside has served the local community for over 175 years and continues to do so today.
We would like to share with you the opportunity to explore this Victorian Church which was consecrated in 1848. The Church has inevitably changed over the years but still retains some original features. The architect, Charles Walklett Burleigh (1819 - 1884) designed 3 churches in the Leeds area, but St. James’ is the only one still in existence.
There are some wonderful stained-glass windows, including one which is a memorial to those who died in the First World War. There are various wood and stone carvings around the Church, including a beautiful octagonal stone font.
We will have a discovery trail to help guide you round the Church and a display of pictures and artefacts to help you find out about some of the people and events that have shaped it over the years. Children can hunt for our ‘Church Mice’ to help them find out more about the features of the Church. You will be able to find out about some of the ways in which the Church is serving the local community in the present day and our plans for the future.
All are welcome, including children.
Refreshments will be available.
