Launch of the Stone Library, Sheffield Hallam University

The Stone Library will showcase low carbon geomaterials and composites which are used in building conservation and in newbuild construction. There is open access to view the collection which will be of use to building conservation/restoration and heritage professionals in the region as well as forming a stunning visual installation.
The core of the collection is the Triton stone library, collected and curated by Scott Engering for the purpose of enabling specifiers to easily choose materials for restoration, sympathetic extensions and new buildings from the indigenous limestones, sandstones, granites and slates. Scott is an independent consultant geologist working for numerous professional clients.
Plans to rehome the Triton stone library began in 2021 with the opportunity to provide a permanent display location in one of Sheffield Hallam University's new buildings. To make the content relevant to students in Architecture, Geography and Construction disciplines, each sample in the library is supplemented by an evolving online library. The aspiration is for ongoing evolution of the collection as further samples and information will be added to the physical and virtual library over time.
The completion of the Redmires Building finally allows the collection to be placed on public display and we invite you to visit during the launch.
