Historians and authors Peter Ryder and Robert Peers will share their expertise and enthusiasm to explore the church of St Andrew's, the village of Bywell and their relevance to the local area.

This is an event of two halves.

From 14:00 Peter Ryder will present a talk in St Andrew’s based around his book "Reading the Fabric - An investigative guide to the medieval churches of Northumberland" where he’ll focus on the architecture of the church and that of St Peter’s. The first half of the event will end with a little music performed by Peter.

From 16:30 Robert Peers will begin a short walking tour of the wider site around Bywell Village at St Andrew’s church. Based on the book The Story of Bywell – A Historical Landscape, Robert will recount the history of wider Bywell area. Robert previews his tour saying: “The village settlement itself and the story of its demise is only a small part of the development of this site through recorded time. In order to understand why the village was there we need to go back to pre-history, the possible arrival of the Romans and the choice of this piece of land for an Anglo-Saxon monastery” The short tour is expected to end back at St Andrew’s at around 15:00 when Robert will deliver a presentation bringing the whole day together.

The event will close with the opportunity to look around the church, chat to volunteers from the Friends of St Andrew's and enjoy a drink and chat with fellow attendees and the speakers.
